Neil Shen, Founding Managing Partner, Sequoia Capital China
Neil Shen graduated from Shanghai Jiaotong University major in applied mathematics with first class honors in 1989 and left for US pursuing advanced studies upon graduation. He graduated from the School of Management at Yale University in 1992 and subsequently joined Citibank in the investment banking area with its emerging market group.
He moved to Hong Kong in 1994 and was one of the first batch of China bankers helping to raise money and secure overseas listing for Chinese companies working at Lehman Brothers, Chemical Bank (now JP Morgan Chase) and Deutsche Bank. He was a director and Head of Global Markets for China at Deutsche Bank where he worked from 1996 to 1999.
In 1999, he co-founded Ctrip.com, an online travel concern in China in 1999. As President & CFO, He played pivotal roles in growing Ctrip (NASDAQ: CTRP) from a small start-up to the largest travel consolidator in China with a market capitalization over US$ 1.5 billion. Mr. Shen also co-founded Home Inns, the leading economy hotel chain in China in 2002, which he acts as its Deputy Chairman. He is also a board director of Focus Media Limited (NASDAQ: FMCN), the largest out-of-home digital media concern in China. His achievement at Ctrip and Home Inns helped him to be voted as “entrepreneur of the year 2004” by Asian Venture Journal.
In August 2005, he co-founded Sequoia Capital China, for which he acts as its Founding Managing Partner. Sequoia Capital China currently manages a US$ 200 Million China focused fund targeting high grow and high potential companies. |
